The American Bar Association established the ABA Task Force for American Democracy in 2023 to inspire and mobilize America’s legal professionals to support and defend American democracy, the Constitution, and the rule of law.
Earlier this year, the Task Force embarked on a series of “Listening Tours” in cities across the country. During these gatherings task force members heard from many legal professionals who were ready to engage locally.
This website is a product of these meetings and the initiative, drive, and energy of local legal professionals. Its purpose is to equip lawyers and legal professionals with the tools and resources needed to help protect elections and strengthen public trust in their integrity.
Thank you for spending time here. We hope that you will find these resources helpful. Please don’t hesitate to reach out and please share this with others in your networks.
This site is designed to provide legal professionals with easy access to the tools needed to fulfill the task force's call to action.
Activities are organized by time commitment and can be applied to any of the key issues including election law, certification, safeguarding election integrity, and post-election processes.
Across the country, election systems face growing threats, from deliberate misinformation to widespread misunderstandings about how the systems function. Democracy, and the freedoms it ensures, are at risk, and without action, these threats will only intensify.
Legal professionals have both the responsibility and the unique ability to act. Bound by an oath to protect the Constitution and uphold the rule of law, we must correct misinformation and confront those who seek to undermine public trust or compromise election systems.
To support this effort, the American Democracy Task Force has identified key issues endangering election integrity. Use the time-based action recommendations below to engage immediately on any of these issues and make a tangible impact.
Each issue page provides access to interactive tools, research, analysis, and downloadable resources for effective use and distribution.

Election lawsuits are flooding the courts, aiming to alter voting rules in crucial states—based on unfounded claims of widespread fraud.
In response, past presidents of national, state, and local bar associations are sounding the alarm now that our courts must remain grounded in facts, not theory.
In their open letter, they urge lawyers to uphold the rule of law, warning that unfounded cases risk our democratic foundations. Download and share their urgent message and see why ethical standards in our legal system are essential to protecting the integrity of our democracy.
